  1. FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD
First, a video for fun, from the musical Oliver!
Now, some questions to get you thinking about food:

What are the TOP TEN species you eat?
Mine include coffee, pig, cow, wheat, carrot,
tomato, kale, broccoli, corn, potato, peas… Your turn!

What ingredient in your kitchen
do you think not everybody uses? Mine is shallots.

There are lots of ways to prepare foods.
Name something you (or your family) eat
prepared these ways:

(If something looks unfamiliar, please look it up)
Raw:

Dehydrated/Dried:

Cured/Smoked:

Fermented:

Cooked:

Treated with Acid or Alkali:

Frozen (as in, eaten frozen):
Food of our Ancestors:
What food have you ever had
that comes from your ancestor?
If you have Scottish ancestors
that might be Haggis. If you have Latin
American background that might be empenada.

Pick something you’d love to be able to make. What is it?

Favourite locally made meal/treat?
Mine is the salted-caramel gelato from Harlans.

Food Rituals: Some food is more than food.
Some foods have songs you sing while making them.
Some foods are for celebrations only,
and some foods link in with religion.
This is a food/ drink ritual
I know about or learned about:
Weights and Measures: Scientists need tools!
What measuring tools are in your kitchen?

Yard to Table: Are you growing
anything to eat? What?

OK, I know this made you hungry
and you got a snack. What was it?

  1. Photography or Drawing or???:

Something Eating Something
OK, this is the result of being a wildlife photographer for years.
It’s a once-in-a-lifetime shot. But if they weren’t trying, they
would never have gotten this shot!!
Post in Stream if you want, or post here:

  1. Book check in!
I swear, authors are trying to kill their characters!!! They rarely eat!
In your book, does anybody eat? What’s going on with food in your book?
Why did the author do it that way?

Example:
In my book the main character is a cyborg assassin
that has decided to kill a lot less and try to pass as human.
She doesn’t eat, but she feels really embarrassed around
people who are eating. She’s trying to fit in, but food is
a human thing that she’ll never really be able to share.
The author uses food as a way to show how conflicted
and alone the main character is.

6. Learning Cafe Menu:
Take your Pick!
-Spellquiz - Most of you are on! As soon as we get everybody, we’ll have more fun with it.
-Prodigy - Do at least 15 questions unless you’re doing Mrs Suderman’s math!
-Typing.com
-Code.org or Makecode Arcade

-Put cool stuff on your Google Site

The Home Stretch

Wow- this has gone really fast and kinda slow at the same time. To paraphrase a friend of mine, "Time is sorta sticky this year!...
